Act First Teach LAMDA

LAMDA exams are designed to develop your life skills, such as clear communication, self-confidence and teamwork, through the creative platforms of drama, literature and music. All our exams allow you to improve self-expression, strengthen memory and, most importantly, have fun.

For students aged 6 -Adults,  Act First Drama School tutors students in Acting, Verse and Prose and Public Speaking. We conducted sessions in person and online via the Zoom platform. Each lesson is either 1 hour or 30 minutes of 1-1 tutoring, focusing on the individual.

About LAMDA Exams

LAMDA History

LAMDA is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected London Drama Schools and awarding bodies. LAMDA has been offering practical exams in communication & performance subjects for over 130 years.

A LAMDA exam is the speech & drama equivalent of a music grade. Like music grades, Lambda's exams go up in grades and culminate at Grade 8 (Gold Medal).

LAMDA qualifications are Ofqual recognised and have helped hundreds of thousands of candidates of all ages and abilities develop lifelong skills.

LAMDA Qualifications

LAMDA examinations encourage learners of all ages to develop a love of literature, poetry & drama and improve communication standards through the spoken word.

Self confidence will grow and empower the learner to achieve their goals. Examinations are open to all, and there is no requirement to begin at the Entry Level. You may be looking to gain confidence in performance, speech, or communication better at work or college – or simply looking for a new challenge! Exams can be completed in any order, although it’s necessary to ensure you are entered at the correct level and scene selection choices when teaching children are age-appropriate.

What to expect with LAMDA

LAMDA is a commitment, and regular sessions are essential. We will work together to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to work towards the chosen qualification.

To simplify, you will work on interpretation, technique and knowledge.
You will be expected to pay in advance for your LAMDA exam, and the prices vary, depending on your choice of qualification. In addition, you will be asked to attend the LAMDA Public Centre in your local area on the day of your exam.
You will be guided through the entire exam process, and mock exams will take place to prepare you fully. Although exams can be scary, it's important to remember that LAMDA examiners want you to succeed!

LAMDA set ‘guided learning hours’, which include an average of one hour per week of contact time and homework tasks that bridge the gap between lessons. Depending on your choice of discipline, homework will take the form of researching, reading, learning lines, completing worksheets, and preparing presentations or written tasks.

Whilst many children & young people will have lots of School homework and extracurricular activities, please be mindful that some additional work for LAMDA is required. This is because, whilst we will ultimately work towards the criteria of an exam, we will also be starting a learning journey. For example, suppose you choose an Acting exam, apart from the monologues you will perform for the exam itself. In that case, sessions will cover breath control, diction, vocal modulation, characterisation, working areas of the stage, subtext and method acting (to name but a few).

LAMDA sessions should be fun, challenging, full of new learning and working towards a successful exam result.

Earn extra UCAS points!

That's right! LAMDA Exams are a fantastic way to boost your confidence, creativity and communication... they can also earn you extra UCAS points for your university applications!

Grade 6 | 08 - 12 UCAS points
Grade 7 | 12 - 16 UCAS points
Grade 8 | 16 - 30 UCAS points

Can you combine?

Yes!

You can combine points from the communication syllabi (e.g. Speaking in Public) and the performance syllabi (e.g. Acting). That means you could walk away with up to 60 UCAS points in total - which is more than an A at A Level.
